Weekend Round Up 19/01/19 & 20/01/19

Saturday

1s Friendly vs Cambridge

1-1 draw with newcomer Jodie Connolly scoring from a short corner drag flick.

The first team have one more friendly fixture before they return to league action on 2nd February away vs Fylde

THREES RUN AWAY AT FRIENDLY FIXTURE

Leicester 3s had a fantastic 6-0 victory against a Market Harborough 1/2s team.

Emma Sleeman scored 1 a reverse hit into the top right hand corner, Caitlin scored 3 including a lovely flick over the goalkeeper and Lydia scored 2. Most impressive, besides the number of goals scored, the clean sheet was the team performance which was tremendous.

Great job by coaches Paul and David, Coach's Player of the Match was Emily Kendall

CITY CONTINUE WINNING STREAK

Leicester started all guns blazing against a depleted Nottingham Players side with the first plays of the game involving Mark being taken out by the GK resulting in a short corner. James and David played a nice dog leg routine that proved unsuccessful but was to be the first of a number of attacking opportunities. Six minutes in Players' 11th player finally arrived and took them up to a full compliment on the pitch.

The next 20 minutes was all Leicester ball with Players pushed back into their own half if not their 23 and struggling to turn the ball into meaningful attacks. City worked hard and eventually scored the inevitable goal after Jamie fired the ball into the D for James S to deflect onto the back post.
Players woke up after a forward made a lone high run in behind the Leicester defence and held the ball well for his teammates to gather in the D and produce a series of goal worthy shots all resulting in goal line saves from a number of players.

Leicester continued to apply the pressure and a resulting short corner was flicked into the top right hand corner by James S for his second.
Leicester played the ball well out of the back including a bold aerial from Ethan. Jamie got his first stealing a goal from James S, arguments continue as to who got the touch before it crossed the line (including their GK) but the goal is credited to Jamie by the Umpires. A well seen high ball from Paul sent JB up the left wing and after a number of shots on goal James F slapped home the winner in only his second game of the season due to injury.

Leicester were caught napping with an absent left mid and Players forged forward firing a strike across the face of the goal going in off the back post- goodbye clean sheet!

James S got things back on track with a penalty flick after Nottingham stopped the ball on the goal line with a body. This was followed not long after with Jamie finishing a scrabble in front of goal after JB fed a great ball into the D leaving David M to sneak his only goal of the game from an on target shot from James F.

Goal scorers- some debate with steals before and over the line but the team sheet registers- James S (5), Jamie (2), James F (1), David M (1)

Squad: Jason Clothier GK, David Hill, David Magill, Declan Shepherd, Ethan Hill, Henry Young, James Francis, James Sordillo, Jamie Sinclair, Jasraj Bhatia, Mark Baggott, Paul Lineham, Ross Harrison

Leicester City have a week off and return to league action on 2nd February.

Sunday

UNDER 10s

Well done to our Under 10s in their tournament at home!

UNDER 8s

On a very cold Sunday our U8 team travelled to Ashby to take part in a mini-tournament against Ashby and Loughborough. The results for Leicester are as follows

  • Leicester 0 - Loughborough 2
  • Leicester 0 - Ashby 1
  • Leicester 1 - Loughborough 1
  • Leicester 0 - Ashby 1

The girls played with determination and tenacity and with only 1 substitute most of the girls played all 4 matches and were shattered by the end - I am sure they slept well that night. In all the games the results do not reflect the amount of possession we had and that most of the games were played in the opposition half. In one game we had 10 shots on goal but somehow the ball just wouldn't go in the net. We also didn't realise that there was NO 'D" and you could score from anywhere on the pitch - Loughborough had a long-range striker hence the 2 goals...my fault I should have clarified the rules.

What an amazing group of girls! I can't wait for the next competition. We can be very proud of them.

Well done girls - Charlotte, Emily, Arya, Issy, Ramona, Clarissa, Asmi and Leeyate
