Fifths' Winning Run Comes to an End

Leicester City 5ths winning run came to a dramatic end at the weekend against a decent Leicester University 2nd team. Despite some absences and the loss of players to the 4ths, we had 16 raring to go - so player-coach Gaynor Nash just stuck to sideline duties.

We dominated the game pretty much throughout and numerous chances were created. Their keeper played well but we were a little shot-shy without goal-getter Lydia Cross and drew a blank on about ten penalty corners. We also managed to miss a couple that were easier to score but fortunately there’s no video evidence!

They made a few chances and won some penalty corners but the defence stood firm and Aleena Moti dealt well with any shots or crosses.

Deep into the second half we were still pressing for a goal when they had a swift breakaway and the ball somehow eluded our defence to hit the post and come to rest behind Aleena. In the resulting melee the Uni scrambled the ball home.

We attacked frantically in the last few minutes but couldn’t get the goal our game deserved.

The Uni girls voted Eleanor Izzard as Player of the Match which was well deserved but there were strong performances all round. Ellia Bach made an assured debut, Isla Cullen ran tirelessly, Olivia Glover was excellent and Katie Bensi was again thoroughly impressive.

Squad: Aleena, Lottie, Riana, Ellie, Hazel, Abi, Ellia, Eleanor I, EleanorP (c), Isla, Katie, Judith, Aman, Emily, Aman and Joy.
