Fives Grab First Win of Season

Leicester 5s put last week’s loss to our 4s team behind them with a resilient showing against Market Harborough 2s.

Much depleted by the loss of five DMU girls, we welcomed back Aman Khan and gave a first start to Abi Davies. The first half was very even. Lydia Cross (voted our Player of the Match by Harborough) was busy in attack and defence. Izzy Leslie-Carter ran hard at Harborough’s back line and Aleena Moti in our goal provided staunch resistance.

We went into half time at 0-0 knowing we would soon be boosted by Liv Kirk, fresh from working a cushy 4-10am shift.

When Liv took to the field we went up a gear, pressing Harborough at every opportunity. We won some penalty corners but didn’t capitalise. Eventually, however, pressure told and the ball fell to Izzy at the far post and she made no mistake. We then defended from the front, created additional chances and made sure there were few dramas at the other end. Ultimately we saw out the win and can look forward positively to the next games with ranks boosted by the students’ return.
