Fives Emerge Winners in Five-Goal Thriller
- By Gaynor Nash
After last week’s encouraging goalless draw, the Fifths travelled to Soar Valley College to take on Roundhill on Saturday 15 February.
We had a squad of 16, which was great, with debuts for Ellie and Elisha and second run outs for Neelam, Katie and Eleanor. Player-coach Gaynor opted for the sidelines after 10 minutes to better organise substitutions. We made almost all of the early running and led 1-0 at half-time thanks to a smart goal from Aman.
Their 'keeper made a couple of saves to keep them in the game and Aleena had to be alert at the other end to keep us ahead. We then scrambled a goal that nobody seemed to claim but we’ve given it to Elisha anyway. Unfortunately, we then had a careless moment with too many upfield and they pulled one back. Swiftly, Aman added her second and our third, finishing off a good move, and a comfortable margin looked in sight. However, we were again caught out going a bit gung-ho and they pulled another back.
At 3-2 the last few minutes were a little fraught but we finished well and were good value for the win. Lydia was chosen by Roundhill as Player of the Match.
Next Saturday we face tough opposition in Ashby seconds.
Squad: Aleena, Helen. Rosemary, Emily, Gaynor, Ellie, Neelam, Nisha, Katie, Lydia, Eleanor I, Eleanor P, Joy, Aman, Elisha, Millie.
