4-1 Victory For Leicester Seconds Against Matlock Baileans
- By Paul Lineham
On 8 February 2020, Leicester City Hockey Club Seconds hosted Matlock Baileans Ladies and began the game strong, dominating possession.
Our simple yet effective play soon led to a deflection from Elise which ensued in a goal. This definitely set the pace for the rest of the game.
Motivated; we managed to defend penalty corners with ease, thanks to great saves from Emma.
Another goal soon followed, as Mickayla Hazelwood took a clean successful shot capitalising on our attacking corner. Despite conceding a goal towards the end of the second half, we managed to stay composed!
The score stood at 2-1 to Leicester.
Our half-time pep talk and the presence of sweets prepared us for the second half, which had a much more aggressive dynamic.
Inevitably Matlock were eager to make a comeback. Even though four cards were issued, the chaos did not impede us from pushing on. The third goal of the match was achieved by Etta Magill through impressive link up play with Sophie Levy.
Matlock imposed a high press, the intensity of the game only increased as the match went on. Several penalties were passionately defended and many shots from the opposition were successfully diverted.
To finish, Kitty Brigwood scored a cracking goal from the tightest of angles. The final and well deserved score: 4-1 to Leicester Twos.
The game was a display of the team’s massive potential!
