Fives Fall To League Leaders Loughborough

- By Gaynor Nash

Off the back of a test against our Fours last weekend, a patched-up Fives travelled to Loughborough for a match against the high-flying Loughborough Carillon side.

We gave them a good game, losing 3-1 early in the season but, clearly, they are too good for Division 1 and unbeaten.

We held them very well for 20 minutes with Aleena Moti making several great saves, but their fortunes changed with the arrival of one of our own former players, Laura Morley, who began to run the game. They started to find space behind our hard-working defence and despite more heroics from Aleena, we went into the break 4-0 down; disappointing, as in the early exchanges we had threatened their goal quite well.

In the second half we conceded an early goal when they passed the ball around, before finding a flat stick for a far-post tap-in. We then had a good patch, forcing a few short corners that they defended well. We conceded an unfortunate sixth when a goal-bound shot could only be inadvertently turned into an empty net.

Aleena continued to make saves but we failed to tidy up around her for their seventh and Laura Morley cracked one home from circle top for an eighth.

8-0 it ended but there were some moments of great promise and Aleena in particular had a fine game.

Next week our opponents are Market Harborough Thirds.

Squad: Aleena Moti, Alexia Scudamore, Rosemary Jacques, Kim Moore, Jane Cottrell, Catherine Smith, Chloe Trueman, Gaynor Nash, Katie Vale, Aman Khan, Eleanor Partridge (c), Nisha Thomas, Millie Windram
