Men's Firsts Seal Biggest Win Of The Season
- By Daryl Boyce
Ahead of Coventry’s visit to St Margaret’s Pastures on Saturday 1 February, captain Declan stressed the need for better communication and more composed play around the D in the hope of improving on last week's 2-0 victory.
City dominated the early stages and, after going close with a couple of half-chances, Jamie opened the scoring after being set free down the left flank by a defence splitting pass from debutant Graeme.
Moments later, Mike doubled the home side’s lead with a slapped finish from the top of the D after being picked out by a cut-back from Boyce.
Jacob B then added the third, accelerating past the deepest Coventry defender and lifting the ball over the ‘keeper and into the net.
Unfortunately City couldn't keep a clean sheet as the visitors briefly got themselves back into the game, as the home defence went to sleep and an unmarked forward gave a previously untroubled Harry G no chance with a tidy finish.
Sam scored what was probably the goal of the game as a sweeping attack down City's right flank ended with a neat one-two with Mike and the ball in the visitors’ net.
After squandering some good early chances, Harry W grabbed his first City goal as David M held the ball up before squaring for the on rushing winger to slot home.
5-1 ahead at the break, City were joined in the goal by young Alex Magill (debut next week?) and the half-time Haribo was accompanied by a reminder of just how important goal difference could be, come the end of the season.
City responded by adding six unanswered goals to wrap up their biggest win of the season and captain Dec led the way as he dribbled his way into the D and slotted the ball home.
Jamie doubled his tally with another powerful shot across goal after being picked out in the D by Jacob D. The PC injector then sealed his hat-trick from a penalty corner as Liam returned the ball to him to slot home at the near post.
Harry W added his second reverse stick strike in to the corner after weaving his way through the Coventry defence. The City winger then sealed a debut hat-trick after a passage of play which saw both posts hit and a cracking save from the visiting keeper.
Top scorer David M finished the scoring, and finally ended his recent goal drought, after some unselfish play by Karl.
MotM - Mike, dominated the game from the bottom of the diamond.
DotD - Harry W, some interesting goal celebration dance moves.
Squad - Harry G, Boyce, Liam, Graeme, Jacob D, Mike T, Dec, Karl, Sam, David M, Harry W, Jacob B, Jamie
Big thanks to the umpires, especially Graeme, who stepped in to umpire the second half.
