Men's Twos Dominate With 9-0 Win

Derby Fours were unlucky to come up against a strong Leicester Men's Twos side at St Margaret's Pastures on Saturday, as they ran out convincing winners with their best result this season.

The squad were bolstered by Mike, who missed his lift to the first team game after oversleeping and causing the first team with only 10 players! Paul also took a welcome break from coaching and umpiring to pull on a shirt and last minute arrivals from mixed Mark and Rob joined the fray.

Leicester opened their scoring account early with Mo H getting his first goal in the first few minutes tapping the ball into the net. Three more goals followed in the course of the game as Mo worked hard to get in behind the Derby defence.

Ryan sent the ball goal bound only for it to deflect off a defender's stick and loop out of the keepers reach into the back netting - a flukey touch but definitely deserved for the walking hockey graduate!

Paul, Scott and Mike distributed the ball well from central midfield and encouraged height and width from the forward line. Ryan and Jacob's tireless work at left and right mid kept the Derby defenders busy, Jacob was rewarded with a goal and another pair of socks ruined with a slide to the back post. The forward line linked up well with debutante Andrew acquitting himself well and Mo S unlucky not to get on the score sheet as he chases men's top scorer David Magill.

Mark worked hard transitioning from up front into the top of the midfield line and the sideline supporters were kept happy with crowd pleasing aerials from David and reverse hits from Scott clearing half the pitch and catching Derby unawares. Paul made it worth the trip out bagging himself a hat-trick before leaving to coach - no doubt there were more to come it he'd been allowed to play on. The back-line of Rob, Conor and David covered each other well as all had a chance to push forward and dealt well with the few Derby attacking opportunities.

Leicester lost a bit of structure towards the end of the second half resorting to hit and hope towards the D, desperate to score more goals, which the Derby defenders turned over up easily. The Derby 'keeper played well denying plenty of shots and keep the scoreline to single figures. A few short corner opportunities came and went with Leicester coming close a number of times but the Derby defence doing enough to prevent further goals.

A positive result and team performance.

The team voted Mo H Player of the Match for his 4 goals and Muppet of the Match to Mo S for smashing a plate at teas!

A shout out must be given to newcomer Andy who picked a cold day to stand lonely in goal and to Mo S and Dorey for staying to wash and clean up after the game!

Squad: Andy (GK), Rob, Conor, David DR, Mike, Jacob B, Paul, Ryan, Mo S, Mo H, Andrew, Mark and Scott

Next week's game is against Burton 5s away 4pm pushback.
