Thirds Disappointed With Draw
Leicester City Hockey Club's ladies third team were left disappointed with a 2-2 draw away to Half Century on Saturday 16 November.
Leicester started off strongly going 1-0 up in the first two minutes with Caitlin scoring a deflection right in front of the 'keeper.
Half Century answered soon after with a forward movement leading to short corner, and a strong strike to the bottom left hand corner giving Leicester something to think about.
Leicester took control of the first half, moving the ball quickly and transferring across the back line to keep Half Century on the back foot. Good movement and strong leads kept Leicester with the upper hand and led to an opportunity for Sian to capitalise with a second goal.
A positive team talk at half-time suggested that the team could increase the goal tally and the team settled into the second with good intention!
Unfortunately Half Century had other plans and continued to threaten in the second half, keeping Leicester working hard in defence. Under sustained pressure, Leicester were guilty of trying too hard to force the play and lost the momentum that was shown in the first half.
In the dying minutes Half Century turned over the ball from a Leicester 16 to quickly take the ball into the left hand of the D and a deflection from a narrow angle took the score to 2-2. This seemed to shock the Leicester team into a rapid response, attacking quickly, but unfortunately the damage was done, and the score remained at 2-2 as the final whistle blew a few minutes later.
Leicester will be deeply disappointed with the result, but will take the lessons into next week's game vs Market Harborough with a real fire to win.
