Fives Seal 3-0 Win Over Lutterworth
After last week’s heavy defeat the Fives went into Saturday’s Cup game hoping for an up turn in fortunes.
Lutterworth have been struggling to field a side of late and they were under strength today but the Fives only had eleven, two of whom are still quite new to hockey and Hazel had cleverly forgotten her contact lenses and wipers for her specs. The pitch was a bit puddled but the rain took a break for the first half.
Leicester dominated the game and should have scored on numerous occasions but the final shot was saved well or went narrowly wide. Midway through the half Leicester took the lead when the ball fell to Eleanor who finished smartly. We then added a second when Chloe, continuing a rich vein of scoring form, squeezed the ball into the corner of the goal.
Leicester's Fives almost added a third but Aman just missed after latching on to a good through ball.
The second half saw the rain return and Lutterworth press a little harder but there was still no work for Aleena in goal and very little for a misted up Hazel at sweeper. Leicester pushed forward hard, squandered a few chances but then, to collective delight, Aman opened her Leicester account with a close range finish. The heavens then opened and the rain was of Biblical proportions. The umpires conferred and decided to finish 13 minutes early meaning the score would stand and Leicester would go into the hat for the second round.
Positive signs today with great work from the squad and really promising progress from newcomers Millie and Aman.
