Seconds Hit Two Without Reply Against Edgbaston
Following on from the Seconds' fantastic win last week, the team secured another victory against Edgbaston Firsts this weekend.
The team started very strongly and we were well drilled, passing the ball around the pitch well with some great link-up play. Leicester's intensity meant that the team hit Edgbaston hard at the start and soon scored two goals near the start of the game. Both goals were scored in open play by Steph, following some fantastic individual skills and quick passing.
Sadly Leicester weren’t as clinical in the rest of the game as they were in the first 15 minutes, which meant that the final score remained 2-0. It was a good feeling to get another three points in the bag but all felt as though the team could have made some more chances in the final quarter of the pitch, given how much possession Leicester had and how well the side kept hold of the ball up until the final few passes.
Leicester managed to predominantly keep the ball out of their D as a result of some great defence further up the pitch, which meant that the team kept a clean sheet, but that Emma was left bored and freezing. Having said this, she did make some amazing saves that kept the Twos in the game.
Man of the Match went to Anna K, who was phenomenal throughout the game, making some brilliant tackles and quick decisions. Carys, Kitty, Harriet and Etta held the middle strong making good leads, with some skilful runs up the pitch. Whilst Gemma and Sarah gave some superb passes from the back, linking up with the midfield and the forward line well.
Overall it was a real team performance, with 9 people being nominated for Man of the Match.
Well done everyone.
