Third Team Continues Unbeaten Run
Despite the rugby being on and an absent coach (Paul off wandering onto nudist beaches in Greece) the Threes dominated play and produced their best hockey yet against Charnby (Charnwood and Sileby) last Saturday (19 October).
Leicester started the game well creating chances in the first few minutes. The first goal came after only five minutes as Karen fired a penalty corner strike into the bottom left-hand corner.
More penalty corners came and went as Leicester built pressure in the Charby half. A few good routines weren't converted but Sophie changed that getting herself on the scoresheet deflecting the ball on the right post in the 10th minute.
The midfield continued to work hard changing the angle of attack for the forwards to get plenty of opportunities in the D. Charnby as always fought hard in defence to continually deny Leicester more clear goal chances.
Leicester continued to dominate the play and a goal for Simran took the score to 3-0.
The Charnby equaliser came after 20 minutes and left captain Elsbeth in animated discussion with both umpires, 3-1.
The pressure was all one way for the rest of the half with the back line of Kate, Elsbeth and Jodie distributing well to give Rhiannon little to do in goal.
Simran followed up with a second goal showing great composure in the D to lift the ball around the keeper and take the score to 4-1 just before half time.
Player/Coach Annie rallied the troops with the same mantra as the last few weeks- more of the same and better!
Leicester again dominated in the second half. The quick midfield rotations of Karen, Roshni, Elise, Sian, Bella and Sophie allowed Leicester to play fast tempo hockey and keep Charnby on the back foot.
Bella had her shot on goal disallowed as contact was made with the ball outside the D- karma points go to Kayleigh who was wearing her sportsman's hat and let the umpires know.
Roshni was awarded a green card and a two-minute enforced sit down for not giving 5 from a free hit in the 23, something she deservedly was awarded DOTD for!
Charnby then had a series of penalty corners and free hits outside the D which Leicester dealt with well and Rhiannon was finally called to action to make some good clearances.
The last goal came from a superb team effort with lots of phases of passing play taking place before Kayleigh deflected the ball into the net, 5-1.
It was a really classy performance from the ladies who moved the ball quickly and confidently all game to overwhelm Charnby.
Well done to POTM Elise who had a fantastic game in midfield being at the centre of both attacking and defensive play.
Next week Leicester take on Loughborough Town 2s away from home with a sleepy 9am pushback. The game will set the tone for the league table as both teams are level on points, with Leicester ahead on goal difference.
