Fives Off The Mark
The first three matches of this season had not gone to plan for the Fives and they found themselves propping up the league before Saturday’s match against fellow strugglers Roundhill.
They too had lost three games but as two were conceded, resulting in just a 0-3 loss, they were ahead of Leicester on goal difference.
The Fives went into the game with just 11 players; striker Joy York having injured her back ten pin bowling! They started with just 10, however, as Gaynor Nash was still getting kitted up after umpiring the Thirds! By the time she was on the pitch the team was a goal down.
The team fought back admirably with debutants Aman and Anastasia doing well. Evie in goal made a couple of good saves and two good finishes from Chloe saw the team 2-1 up at half time.
Lydia was, as ever, busy up and down the pitch and was unlucky not to add to the score. When the team won a penalty corner and the opposition lost a defender for being out too fast Gaynor was able to flick a third past a static defence. There was time for one more as the ball was returned to the injector, Lydia, at another penalty corner and she calmly slotted home.
All credit to Roundhill who battled hard throughout. They selected two-goal heroine Chloe Trueman as our Player of the Match.
Next week, the team travels to Ashby to take on their high-flying second team.
