3-2 Victory On The Road For Ladies Firsts

The girls showed up to a late 6.00pm push back at Stourport ready to fight for three points on the table.

As the whistle blew Leicester mounted the first wave of attack with Katie Long sending a massive overhead across the pitch to breach the right side of the Stourport circle. Their 'keeper was in good form, saveing a few shots until a lifted ball found the end of Oriwa Hepi's stick and within 30 seconds Leicester led the match 1-0.

In quick response Stourport let us know the game wasn't ours to just take. A few minutes of the post goal lull hit Leicester, and Stourport responded with a goal.

Before the first quarter was up Rachael Mack pressured the Stourport defence and earned Leicester an attacking penalty corner to which a swift swing of her stick she also scored the second goal for Leicester.

That wasn't the end of Stourport because they responded in good form, equalising in the second quarter.

The game was hard-fought with many physical challenges throughout the pitch, both teams desperate to take away the three points. Stourport received a five-minute yellow just towards the end of the third quarter, allowing Leicester to have an advantage going into the last quarter one man up. We were unable to utilise the advantage we had, but with 10 minutes to go Rachael Mack found Oriwa Hepi in the circle, who slightly deflected the ball straight past the 'keeper's foot.

Leicester was happy to lead 3-2 and worked hard to maintain their lead. A slight injury by a Leicester defender enabled the girls to get a small breather before taking on the waves of Stourport attack.

We held them out till the end and took the three points home.
