Report: Leicester 5s 0-3 Loughborough Carillon
After last week’s mauling by our 4s, the 5s were hoping to bounce back against League newcomers Carillon. The Loughborough side is based around a long established mixed outfit and included ex-Leicester players Marion and Anna Godwin.
It was clear from early on that Carillon will challenge for promotion this year. Indeed, a couple of their players would look good in Midland League teams. We went behind when, after a good save at a penalty corner by Evie Clothier, we didn’t react to the rebound and saw the ball trickle over the line after a narrow angle effort. Evie made more good saves before we conceded at another PC.
Jayne Worlding, our number one runner, was sent to half way for breaking too soon. We sacrificed our left post to replace Jayne and that’s exactly where the Carillon player placed her shot.
The last ten minutes and most of the second half saw us really compete with Carillon and we were unlucky to concede a third when captain Lydia Cross was just millimetres away from preventing a good reverse stick finish. We finished the game strongly and were unlucky not to at least get a consolation goal with Amy Worlding being denied on two occasions.
Next week we are at Welland Park against Market Harborough 3s.
