Congratulations, Cocky

There were plenty of reasons to celebrate for England’s Masters teams at the IMHA European Cup in Rotterdam over the weekend of 27-28 July, with a former Leicester City Hockey Club player at the centre of one of the team’s successes.

The Women’s Over-35s, led by Head Coach Gareth Ikin, claimed a gold medal courtesy of a thrilling 3-2 victory over a determined German side. Requiring a draw to finish top of their pool, the team took the lead with a goal from former Leicester player Sarah Cockayne.

Whilst Germany equalised later, Nic George restored England’s lead, only for Germany to respond and level the score. However, Cockayne would have the final say in proceedings, with her fine finish at the far post securing a dramatic win and the title.

On behalf of everybody at Leicester City Hockey Club, congratulations to Cocky and everybody involved in England’s Over-35 Masters team on their success.

Meanwhile, England Women’s Over-40s also defeated Germany to clinch gold in their table, with the Men’s Over-35s completing a hat-trick of wins over Germany to win their own gold.
