Gaynor Nash

Go On, Gaynor!

Everybody at Leicester City Hockey Club would like to congratulate our very own Gaynor Nash, who last month captained her Wales 60+ side to a silver medal in Antwerp.

It’s an impressive achievement for the newly-formed team, who performed brilliantly to reach a final showdown against England. A highlight of the Wales team’s run to the final was an outstanding 3-0 victory over Holland.

Gaynor was called into action across the field in the final, with injury and fatigue seeing her play CM, RM, LM, RH and sweeper. Despite the challenge, Wales found themselves down by only a single goal, which came at the end of the third quarter.

However, the difference in experience told in the final ten minutes of the game, as England emerged 5-0 winners.

Despite defeat in the final, for a new side to reach the final of the competition in their first outing deserves immense credit – and we’re proud to see Gaynor at the heart of it.

Gaynor is pictured above with England captain, Ruth Hine, and Scotland skipper Charlotte Barrett – mother of Leicester City Hockey Club’s very own Lucy Briscoe.
