Weekend Round Up 28/04/19
U12s THROUGH TO NATIONAL FINALS
Congratulations to the U12 girls who travelled to Wolverhampton today to take part in the regional round of the national In2Hockey championships. Two solid wins against Kettering (3-0) and Lichfield (1-0) and a marginal loss to Repton was enough to secure first place in their group. Onwards to the quarter finals where Leicester took on a strong Northampton side but powered their way through to the semi finals after an accurate shot from Alice was too much for the Northampton GK who deflected the ball into the net. Final score a 1-0 win to an ecstatically happy group of girls who had just secured their place in the final!
The last match of the day brought Leicester up against Belper who had an impressive set of wins taking them to the final. The Leicester girls fought hard but the powerful Belper team scored an early goal and quickly added another two to the score line. But the Leicester girls did not give up and a fine display of skill saw Alice make a run to goal from the half way line to beat the Belper Goalkeeper. 3-1. But this wasn't quite enough and despite some impressive saves from goalkeeper Amelia, a final goal from Belper brought the score at full time, 4-1 to Belper.
What a fantastic afternoon of hockey. The girls wore the black shirts with pride and, as regional runners up, their efforts secured Leicester a place in the NATIONAL FINALS!!! What a huge achievement!! Super proud of you all.
Many thanks to Coach O and Heidi standing in for Coach Gaynor who was wearing a different coloured shirt today as Captain of the Wales over 60s team.
