Leicester Hockey Club is currently working towards England Hockey ClubMark (ClubsFirst) Accreditation. This is part of Sport England’s Clubmark Programme. Clubs achieving accreditation are recognised nationally as operating and promoting a ‘safe, effective and child friendly’ club environment.
The England Hockey Accreditation Scheme has four focus areas:
* Developing Young People in Hockey
* Safeguarding & Protecting Young People
* Sports Equity and Ethics
* Club Management
The Club will continue working towards maintaining ClubMark Accreditation and, indeed, even higher standards to ensure it remains a first choice club for young hockey players in and around Leicester and Leicestershire and, importantly, becomes an appointed England Hockey Local Development Centre under the new Single System for Hockey [Long Term Athlete Development].
Accreditation requires drafting, introducing, monitoring and updating new procedures and paperwork, having volunteers attend courses and those directly involved with younger players, DBS Checked. All Teams employ the same disciplines and procedures.
The Club has a robust Safeguarding & Protecting Young People in Hockey Policy which deals with every area of child protection from injury to bullying and from overplaying to staying away with a team overnight. We supply fully stocked First Aid Kits (the same for every Team) and these an be seen on the sidelines. We actively encourage volunteers and players to perform key roles in the Club and essential work is spread across a wide number of people making individual roles less ‘stressed’ – just speak to a Committee Member or Team Coach if you feel able to assist or want to get involved. Please note that all Volunteers are covered by the Club’s Insurance Policy whilst acting on behalf of the Club.
