Runners up spots for Leicester pair
Young Leicester HC stars Lauren Turner (19) and Jess Hickman (16) both finished second in their respective categories at last night's Leicester Mercury Sports Awards. Lauren has played for England U21 on several occasions and this winter her fine indoor performances for the club saw her promoted to the England indoor side. Jess broke into the England U16s in the spring and is now a member of the England U18 squad. She was a key player in Leicester U18s who reached the National U18 Finals for the second year running.
Lauren lost out to England cricket star Nicky Shaw, a key player in England's World Cup and World T20 team as well as helping them retain the Ashes. They should of course have been BBC Team of the Year but bizarrely lost out to the men's cricket team...
Jess was pipped by swim star Sophie Smith, national number 1 in her discipline and tipped as a possibility for 2012.
Well done to both and to Lucy Brown and Ness Hawkins who represented the first team and the club and proved a knockout with boxer Rendall Munroe as well as getting into a bit of a maul with Sportsman of the Year, Tom Croft. Pics to follow!
